Merry Christmas

Afgelopen maandag vierden we onze 9e huwelijksdag. How time flies when you are having fun. ;)

I´m off to Holland to spend some pre Christmas time with my family and friends. After that Mark has a two week holiday.
Last Monday was our 9th wedding anniversary. It only seems like a few years back that we had our fun wedding. Time flies when you´re having fun
And on New Year´s Eve we celebrate the fact that he kissed me for the first time 16 years ago and I fell head over heels in love with him. The moment he walked through the door on my New Year´s Eve party I knew that he was the man I was hoping to grow old with. So cliché but it seems that it might gonna happen. ;)
So I´m taking a blogpause for the rest of December to spend some time with my family, friends and especially my husband.
I´m wishing you all a Merry Christmas with lots of laughter and love with your loved ones.
And I will catch up with you in 2010!

Corner view " Evening"

Today I got my gift my from Mark....the vintage white Christmas tree. Can it get more fake than that? ;)
I don´t know who likes it more...me or miss Kitty. I put it up and one minute later she hang upside down in it!
So there it stands...all naked. I guess this year the decoration will be in grey and white, aka miss Kitty! ;)

Potsdam in the evening is quite beautiful right now. There is a big blue Christmas tree and blue fairy lights are hung in trees.

Misschien.....

I have a split personality, at least when it comes to decoration. ;) I love antique white and silver Christmas ornaments but also like the more bright colors. I have collected so many old Christmas decorations that I could decorate several trees. And that is just what I did in the previous years! One with the antique Christmas balls, one filled with red and white mushrooms and pine cones and one tree filled vintage multi-colored ornaments. But, this year we have Miss Kitty and with her house there will be no Christmas tree extravanganza. Uhm, but one .... because Mark just bought me a vintage white Christmas tree and well......that just has to have a place in the sitting room. I will decorate it with some cheap and unbreakable ornaments. We'll see how long it takes for the little rat hangs in the tree. ;) Besides boxes full of tree deco, I also have an old chest full of odds and bits. Old Christmas trees, matrouschka's, kitsch Christmas garlands, deer heads (calm down, they are plastic), Santa Clauses and I don´t know what else. Here's a small part of the what I have gathered through the years. I must really part with some of the stuff someday. Perhaps next week I will go through all the boxes and keep only those things I really really like. Perhaps.....

Some gorgeous birds flew in yesterday....

Sinterklaas vieren we pas volgende week.

Yesterday I received a great gift from Maren. Gorgeous birds, a x-mas banner, a beautiful cross and sweet Christmas cards. How could one not become in the mood for Christmas?
Today in Holland they celebrate ´Sinterklaas´, Santa Claus feast. For most of the Dutch it´s not done to start Christmas decoration until after the ´Sinterklaas´ day. Then they go full force! ;)

So was schönes könnte ich nie machen. ;)

Have a great weekend!

I really love pigs but not today

Today I got my swine flu vaccination and I´m not happy. I felt perfect .....till I got that shot. My arm is swollen and I feel sick. ;(
So sorry, but the Corner View has to wait a little bit. I will be in bed and feel sorry for myself. ;) Be back soon with corners of our home.
Looking forward to see all your houses!

Some wonderful Christmas music from Goldfrapp. Just to get you and me in the festive mood. ;)

maandag 30 november 2009

Much ado about nothing....

Some of you wanted to see the end result of my crochet work in the last post. Well .... it was intended as a sleeping place for our kitten. But guess what? Not one single cat paw touched that pouf ... spoiled brat! And also her older sister has not set a foot on it. Aaargh! This is going to be another gift for the neighbor kids. ;)
And since I am still in my crochet phase and Mark has not yet put a veto on the number of crocheted items in the house ... I'm still chained to the hook needle.
Inspired by the Grandma Tree Tutorial by The Royal Sisters I am busy making these decorations.

Mark spend two! whole days at home and left this morning at 05.15 o´clock for London. And as the sweet woman I am I stood next to the bed at 04.30. I think it's so nice to share a cup of tea before he leaves (me) for a couple of days.
At 9 I couldn´t keep my eyes open and I decided to return to bed. I never really sleep in, but what happens..... of course someone was at the door at half past 10 and there were 2 ladies at the door. Taken aback by my "charming" pajama outfit they first just looked at me. Well, I speak German rather well but not a when I'm just awake. I had no idea what they wanted. I understood that they wanted to see my friend who was not at home and something about a key. In the meanwhile I was trying to justify my just out of bed look. (it is an understatement when I write that I looked like a scarecrow!)
Luckily in the end I understood that they only wanted the spare key of the friends house. I gave it to them (well, not really, it was the key of our basement) and had some strong coffee.
Lesson for next time: do not open the door in pajamas! And certainly not after 8 o´clock in the morning.
Germans are out of bed very, very early. And I think they also go to bed very early. When I look out of or window after 10 almost all the lights are out in the other houses. ????? Why??
One of the side effects of that phenomenae .... the heating in our house is shut dow at 10 in the evening. I am a night person and by the time it is midnight the house is cold. And the woman who rents out our house does not understand that I am really irritated by that. I think its ridiculous and for me it is a reason to want to move. I want to sit in a warm house until midnight if I want to. That we pay for the expenses and by golly we're not in a retirement residence or in a daycare center. That we are mature people who, if we feel the need to, want to run around naked without fear of being frozen.
So .... that helps! In the absence of the man in my life, I have to use my blog (and you) to blow off some steam..
Now I have the courage to have another round of discussion with the rather unpleasant lady. And that in German! A rant in Dutch would work so much better. ;)

Have a wonderful weekend!

This birdcage was a Christmas present from Mark some years ago.

Thrifted cabinet and print.

It´s Friday night and I´m bored. So what else to do than to play with the pictures.
Mark just called that he is going to a decadent club in Manilla. Hmmmm...yeah right. Life is tough for a workaholic! ;)
But ok, where was I? These were made the last few weeks. Thrift finds and pictures from the house. I´m getting a little bit in the Christmas spirit. In Holland it´s custom not to put up any Christmas deco until the 6th of December, after the Sinterklaas (Santa Claus) festivities. But here in Germany they start much earlier and I just can´t help myself. ;)

I plan to finish my crochet work this weekend!

Wishing you all a great weekend with lots of fun and time to relax,

Corner view " Cell phone madness"

Dilbert cartoon

For most of this year it has been cell phone madness in our house. Every night Mark is on his phone for hours engaged in one or more conference-calls. I sometimes feel I have to call him to get some attention. ;)
So.....I really think they should give him a cell phone implant as a Christmas gift!

I have a cell phone but never use it, I´m more old school and love the old ones.
But there are times I do like cell phones and that is when Mark is abroad.
Right now he´s for two weeks in Manilla and I miss him. Hope he calls me soon. Would love a bit of cell phone madness right now!

Markus, I luv and miss you!

If you want to see more cell phone madness, make sure you visit Jane of Spain Daily, she´s the one who started this all! Look in her sidebar for the other participants.

PS I´m having trouble to comment on some blogs. After days of not being on the computer and wanting to check in on all the things I´ve missed! Well...at least I can read all your posts but I just can´t leave you a comment. Am I the only one having this problem? Sigh!
I blame the kitty....she always jumps on my laptop as soon as I leave it alone for a minute. I need a big fence for my laptop...it´s on my Christmas wish list already. ;)

Good to be back home

This picture I borrowed from Babayagas Haus´s Flickr. Needless to say that I fell in love with that doll the moment I saw this.

Probably all of you who live far away from friends and family know the feeling. You always miss them and when you are with them you miss your home and in my case Mark and the cats. Mark of course the most ( in case he reads this post!) ;)

I had a wonderful stay with my parents and had lots of laugh and delicious food to enjoy. Kay had send a parcel full of goodies to my parents so I had enough to read. Just love gifts like that!
As I came home another parcel waited for me, from Babayagas Haus. She is so übertalented and I always love her creations. I fell in love with her sweet dolls the moment I saw them on Flickr and she surprised me with this little one. Plus a fantastic paper garland. Lucky me! Tatjana has a special place in my blogheart, she was the first one who commented on my blog. That´s so special about blogging. We are lucky to have contact with people all over the world through our blogs. It is somehow like in the old days, being penpals. We may never met, but we do make friends through the written word.
So I might miss my friends back home but I feel lucky to have you as my blogpals. ;)
Have a wonderful weekend and I will be spending my time catching up with your posts,

maandag 26 oktober 2009

Bye bye.....going to have some Dutch fun.

Just a quick update.
I haven´t been feeling well the last weeks. I was tired and just slept a lot. I found out that the cause was an extreme low blood pressure.
I have had blood pressure problems since a nasty Staphylococcus infection that infected the heart muscle too. Last year it was sky high and now because of the medication to prevent blood pressure problems it had the counter effect of being too low.
But all is well now and I´m as happy as a bird. The couch belongs to the cats again.
Mark was last week abroad so I lend the kids from my friend to keep me company for a pyamaparty. Somehow it feels so much better not to be the only one walking around in a pyama the whole day! ;)

Tomorrow I leave for Holland to visit my parents and friends. I need a bit of Dutch ´cosiness´ I´m looking forward to have a good laugh with friends, homemade dinners with my parents and hugs from the little ones in the family. It has been too long ago and I really missed them.

And a tip for another blog to read while I´m gone. ;) Sandra in Canada...I read her blog in one go.

Thanks for all the nice comments and emails and I will be back soon.

Corner view "Love" Potsdam-Berlin

For Jane's Corner View, on the "Love" theme proposed by Jodi.

Love......
First thing that came to mind to show was this book that I found a few weeks ago at a fleamarket.
It´s from the 50´s and by Raymond Peynet. So sweet.
Love the plate. Now more plates are on my wishlist.

But when I told Mark about my idea he said....What? Not about me? It might have been a joke...but he deserves it to be my love topic today. ;)

So here he is....the love of my life.
The man who makes me always laugh when I´m in a bad mood.
The man who I know for more than 15 years and still gives me a big bear hug every day when he comes home.
The man who tells me every day how much he loves me.
The man who never gives me flowers...but when he does he does it well. ;)
The man who I miss every time he goes away.
The man who I still think is the most handsome man ever.
The man who reads every blog I write even when I write about ´girly´ things.
Yes...he is the man that I LOVE!

Yes...life is wonderful.
And I have to thank Marjolein of Something White for making ma vie belle! Marjolein had a giveaway on her blog. She made some beautiful labels and I won one.
Her blog is one of my favorites and I was already more than happy that I would get something I really like. She has a great taste and is one of the nicest persons in the blogosphere.
And this morning I got my giveaway. It blew me away. I expected one label but instead she send me this . And yes I cried again...the pathetic sob that I am. ;)
So lucky that no one was around.
I love love blogging!!! And not just because of this present but because it gives me so much joy and it is great to get to know people I feel connected with.
La vie est belle!
